Micro DC Motors

We offer a wide range of micro DC motors, ranging from 4mm to 42mm+ in size, to meet various application needs of our customers. Due to their small size, these micro motors are highly suitable for devices, equipment, and systems with limited space.

These small DC motors serve as the power source for small gear motors. We typically utilize Brushed DC motors, Coreless DC motors, BLDC motors, and various gearboxes to achieve the desired reduction ratio. This enables us to meet the requirements of industrial, medical, and instrumentation applications.

Our core value lies in collaborating with customers to design motors, build initial prototypes, and subsequently engage in mass production, all while delivering high-quality products and optimal cost-effectiveness to meet their high-value needs.

What kind of Micro DC Motors we have?

Micro DC motors can be divided into brushed and brushless. Brushless DC motors utilize electronic commutation (brushless technology) to avoid wear and tear. They have a lifespan that is ten times longer than their brushed counterparts. Brushless motors are more complex than brushed motors and require electronic systems to control their operation. Miniature brushless DC motors are becoming increasingly popular in a wide range of applications, from toys to medical devices. Their small size and low power consumption make them an ideal choice for battery-powered devices.

A brushed DC motor is driven by DC power, it consists of a shaft, rotor, stator, commutator, magnet, and brushes. The unit price of brushed DC micro motors is usually lower than the brushless motors. As there are no electronics, they are simple to operate, can provide a steady and continuous current, and can operate in extreme environments. The only thing you need to consider when choosing a brushed motor is the service life issue, as the brushes experience friction with the commutator over time, leading to wear and tear of the motor.

Coreless DC motors are a special form of DC motors that can be constructed as either brushless or brushed. Unlike traditional motors, they do not have a solid iron core rotor. Instead, they feature a cup-shaped coil made of copper wire. The coil rotates between the magnets and the outer housing, driving the rotation of the entire rotor. This design completely eliminates the electrical energy loss caused by eddy currents generated in the iron core. These coreless DC motors offer numerous advantages such as small size, high efficiency, high power density, high controllability, low noise, and effective heat dissipation.

Micro DC Motors offer vibration notifications that can be used in portable hand-held devices to alert users. This is achieved by installing an eccentric weight on the output shaft, creating a vibration effect, also known as an Eccentric Rotating Mass (ERM) motor. Micro vibrating motors, typical applications include: Mobile phone Portable electronic device alarm function Touch panel vibration feedback system Massage glasses Wearable exercise and health monitoring devices

How do Brushless Motors Work?

In a brushless DC motor, as the name suggests, it operates without the use of brushes for commutation. Instead, electronic commutation is employed to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy, eliminating the need for brushes.

The coils of the brushless motor are located on the stator of the motor, while the permanent magnets are fixed on the rotor. The rotor rotates a full 360 degrees.

Since the coils no longer rotate and only the permanent magnets rotate, brushes are not required. Motor commutation is achieved through electronic devices that utilize Hall sensors to detect the position of the permanent magnet poles. The electronic circuitry then switches the direction of current in the coils at the appropriate moments to ensure the correct magnetic field direction for motor operation. This eliminates the drawbacks associated with brushed motors.

There are three key points of the brushless DC motors:

Compared to brushed motors, what are the advantages of brushless DC motors?

A brushless DC motor is a unique type of motor in terms of its structure. Firstly, its internal components do not generate rapid mechanical wear, making it virtually maintenance-free. However, over time, the brushes in a brushed DC motor undergo more mechanical wear, eventually leading to motor failure. This is the secret behind the long lifespan of brushless motors.

Moreover, by eliminating brushes, there is no dust, debris, or sparks generated, significantly reducing electromagnetic interference on radio-controlled devices and minimizing heat and noise generation. This key advantage allows brushless motors to operate with ultra-low electrical noise, low friction, and smooth operation. In contrast, brushed motors rely on brushes for commutation, and the intense sparking inside the motor is a direct cause of high motor noise. If your application requires limiting electrical noise, then a brushless DC motor is the most suitable and preferred choice.

FAQ for Micro DC Motor

Usually, the size is less than 160mm or the power is less than 750W motor is classified as micro DC motor. Their most notable feature is their small size and lightweight. They are small DC motor that are easy to install and use.

Small DC motors typically run on anywhere between 1.5 and 100 Volts. However, due to the fact that most robots are powered by batteries, roboticists usually opt for motors that run on 6, 12, or 24 Volts.

Micro DC motors are the most common type of motor, and possess two leads, a positive and negative. By connecting these leads to a battery, the motor will rotate in a certain direction. If the leads are reversed, the motor will rotate in the opposite direction. Additionally, small DC motors use permanent magnets as stators, and if rotated, can act as a generator, with its armature producing an emf proportional to its speed, allowing it to charge a battery.

There are three ways to control the speed of DC motor:
1) Change the speed by adjusting the armature voltage.
2) Change the motor’s magnetic flux.
3) Change the resistance R of the armature circuit, and connect the resistance of the motor armature to adjust the speed.
